    Here’s a panel from the ultra-rare MOTION PICTURE FUNNIES WEEKLY #1, from 1939. This first Sub-Mariner story was soon colorized and reprinted in MARVEL COMICS #1, but I prefer the black-and-white wash of Bill Everett’s original. (Apologies for the less-than-pristine reproduction.)
(EDIT: As Patrick Ford and Mitchell Senft have pointed out, the surviving page of original art reveals that Everett did not use an ink wash but rather Craftint, a distinction that’s impossible to make from the reproduced artwork.)
